2 Corinthians 2:12-17
12 Now when I went to Troas to preach the gospel of Christ and
found that the Lord had opened a door for me, 13 I still had no
peace of mind, because I did not find my brother Titus there. So I said goodbye
to them and went on to Macedonia. 14 But thanks be to God, who
always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to
spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. 15 For we
are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and
those who are perishing. 16 To the one we are an aroma that
brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life. And who is equal to such
a task? 17 Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for
profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as those
sent from God.

12 Cuando llegué
a la ciudad de Tróade para anunciar el evangelio de Cristo,
se me abrieron las puertas para trabajar
por el Señor. 13 Pero mi ánimo no estaba tranquilo, porque no encontré a mi hermano
Tito. Por eso me despedí de ellos y me fui a Macedonia. 14 Gracias a Dios que siempre nos
lleva en el desfile victorioso de Cristo y que por medio de nosotros
da a conocer su mensaje, el cual se esparce por todas partes
como un aroma agradable. 15 Porque nosotros somos como el olor
del incienso que Cristo ofrece a Dios, y que se esparce tanto entre los que se salvan como
entre los que se pierden. 16 Para
los que se pierden, este incienso resulta
un aroma mortal, pero para
los que se salvan, es una fragancia
que les da vida. ¿Y quién está capacitado para esto? 17 Nosotros no andamos negociando con el mensaje de
Dios, como hacen muchos; al contrario, hablamos con sinceridad delante de Dios, como enviados suyos que somos y por
nuestra unión con Cristo.

Once
again we see Paul is dependent upon the guiding of the Holy Spirit...even with
his travel plans.

Paul
was apparently attacked by some at Corinth because his travel plans did not
materialize. Paul tries to explain why... This is... implying that God opened
this opportunity for the gospel and that it remains open! ...This phrase
emphasizes the effective power of God through the redemptive accomplished
ministry of the Messiah and the wooing of His Spirit for evangelism and

we ask the Lord for guidance in the things of this life?

the early church Christians believed in a living Lord, who guided every aspect
of their lives. Do Christians believe this today? Why or why not? Do we believe
this today?

After
a Roman victory the army would march in a grand parade into Rome. They would
have their naked captives in chains dragged behind them. Paul usually
identifies Satan as the captive in this analogy. In this instance, the image of
captives for the church is not the best interpretation.
Después de una victoria romana el ejercito marcharía en un gran desfile en Roma.
Tendrían sus cautivos desnudos con cadenas

This
phrase refers to the Roman military practice of the triumphal march for
victorious legion commanders through the streets of Rome, which
would emphasize Christ as victor. He has destroyed all hostile power. Believers
follow Him, not as prisoners, but this goes against the obvious victory of the
context, unless Paul is referring to his sufferings and humiliations as an
evangelist compared to the prisoners in a Roman parade, but as fellow soldiers! We
are over comers because of and through Him! Our victory is won, but we must
choose to claim it and walk in it daily. (Bob Utely)

Do
we live victoriously? Why or why not? We should have an underlying sense of
victory, peace, joy, and hope. Sin, death, and the devil are in chains behind
us and our Victor, Jesus leads us.

victorious entry into the city, incense was also burned.

Although the gospel is “a
sweet savor” in every place, yet it produces different effects in
different persons ...the smell of life or death.

The
spreading of the gospel is YHWH's accepted sacrifice of praise. Believers are
accepted in Christ for the purpose of becoming like Christ and sharing His

Sadly, their rejecting of this great gift means spiritual death...the loss of
their souls.

like the music of heaven because it was the first she had heard for so many
years! Even so, the first time our ears were opened to hear the words of
love—the assurance of our pardon—we never heard the word so well as we did

Do you remember when you first accepted
Jesus?

Is anyone really qualified to bring such an important
message....a message of eternal life or eternal death?

The preaching of the gospel divides humanity
eternally...Each believer's life is an aroma to God that others react to,
either in trust toward Christ or rejection of Christ. It is important how we
live; others are watching. As I read this verse I think of how many times and
places I have had the privilege of sharing the gospel. One never knows who is
present or what they are going through! Some of my sermons are done well and
some are real flops! How can a proclaimers stand the pressure that one's
hearers have an eternal choice to make based on what they hear from the human
speaker? They cannot! The task is the Spirit's, not the proclaimers! We must be
faithful to speak the gospel but our spiritual responsibility has limits! It is
God's gospel! It is His world! No one can be saved without the Spirit's touch.
Human logic or eloquence is not the crucial factor! (Bob Utely)

How do we smell to unbelievers? Are we the
sweet fragrance of eternal life or the stench of hate and judgment?
¿Cómo

This is a term from the
wine industry. It was used in two ways:

Do people water down the gospel today? Do people sell the Gospel? Do they
customize the Gospel? What are the results? When we preach or witness out on
the streets, we do it to please God and not people. We live and breathe to
please Jesus. When we do this we are the fragrance of Christ....what people
smell or how we are received is their choice. And today in this place we all
make a choice...What do we smell?

su elección. Y hoy en este lugar que todos hacemos una elección ... ¿Qué olor?
