2 Corinthians 4:1-6 4 Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this
ministry, we do not lose heart. 2 Rather, we have renounced
secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word
of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend
ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God. 3 And
even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4 The
god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see
the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of
God. 5 For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as
Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For
God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,”[a] made his light shine in our hearts to give
us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.
DO WE WANT
THE GLORY?
QUEREMOS LA GLORIA?
4 Therefore,
since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart.
Paul is talking about the ministry in the
Spirit which he expounded on in the previous chapter. And since the ministry is
of the Holy Spirit, Paul does not lose heart. Does this mean Paul never felt
like quitting? No, he was discouraged at times but there were times when Jesus
appeared to him in visions or he would be refreshed in the Holy Spirit. Do we
have times when we are discouraged and need the refreshing of the Spirit?

2 Rather, we have renounced secret
and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God.
On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to
everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.
Paul personally refused to use in his own
ministry.
1. no underhanded means
2. no disgraceful methods
3. no cunning
4. no tampering with or
watering down God's message
Each
of these methods reflect the false teachers' charges or their actions. (Bob
Utely)
acciones. (Bob Utely)
EG. I have heard that William Gadsby of
Manchester, traveling on a coach one day, asked two heretical pastors to tell him
how a sinner is justified in the sight of God. “No,” said they, “you won’t
catch us in that fashion. Whatever answer we gave you would be repeated all
over Manchester within a week.” “Oh,” said he, “then I will tell you. A sinner
is justified in the sight of God by faith in the blood and righteousness of
Jesus Christ. Go and tell that all over Manchester and all over England as
quickly as you like.(Charles Spurgeon)
(Charles Spurgeon)
It is the utmost importance to go to a Bible teaching
church...Why? because we are talking about souls and eternity.
3 And even if our gospel is
veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4 The god of
this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the
light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
It is obvious to Paul that when he preached
the gospel some men absolutely could not respond to it. As the Jews are
"hardened", hearers in every age are also "blinded". This is
the mystery of God's sovereignty versus free will,... Paul is continuing his
analogy of the gospel as an aroma of life and of death. The proclamation of the
gospel is serious business, to some life, but to some death. (Bob Utely)
muerte. (Bob Utely)
Who is blinding unbelievers? The god of
this age. Who is the god of this age? Satan. Does Satan control this world?
Satan has no control over the kingdom of God and believers...but in the
unbelieving world...which is the majority, the devil has a terrible influence,
he keeps people spiritually blind and in the dark. But into this darkness comes
the glorious Gospel of light in the person of Jesus and WE are His witnesses!
Quién son los cegandos infieles?
El dios de este siglo. ¿Quién es el dios de este siglo? Satán. ¿Controla
Paul
gloried in that gospel which brings full and free forgiveness to the penitent!
That gospel
which
takes the meanest and basest of mankind and makes them princes in the court of
the King of
kings!
That gospel which comes to men in poverty, in slavery, in the degradation of
superstition,
idolatry
and crime—and lifts them up out of the horrible pit and the miry clay, sets
their feet upon the Rock of Ages, cleanses them, clothes them, puts a new song
into their mouth, preserves them from falling and, at last, brings them where
they shall see the face of God and dwell forever in His presence! It is,
indeed, a glorious gospel which can do all this!(Charles Spurgeon)
(Charles
Spurgeon)
WOW!
Do you see what we have? Simply by accepting Jesus into our hearts and asking
Him to save us.
WOW !
EG.
how one but little raised above an idiot, can yet grasp the gospel. What a
blessing that it is so! I have heard of a poor boy whom his teachers had been
instructing for years, and one day they said to him, “Well, Jack, have you a
soul?” “No, I’ve got no soul.” They feared that they had lost their labor, but
their minds were changed when he added, “I had a soul once, and I lost it, and
Jesus Christ came and found it, and so I let Him keep it.” That was better
gospel than we get from many a learned divine.
"No, no tengo alma."
5 For what we preach is
not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for
Jesus’ sake.
Let's look at the names of Jesus:
·
Jesus = Yahweh saves.
·
Christ = Anointed- prophets , priests, and kings
·
Lord = term used for Yahweh in OT.
Vamos a ver los nombres de Jesús:
• Jesús = Yahvé salva.
• Cristo = Anointed-, sacerdotes y reyes
• Señor = término usado para Yahweh en OT.
This is who the disciples preached.
Esto es lo que predicaban los discípulos.
Self was not the matter nor
the end of the apostles' preaching: they did not give their own notions and
private opinions, nor their passions and prejudices, for the word and will of
God; nor did they seek themselves, to advance their own secular interest or
glory. But they preached Christ Jesus the Lord; and thus it did become
them and was right for them to do, as being Christ's servants. Their business
was to make their Master known to the world as the Messiah, or the Christ of
God, and as Jesus, the only Savior of men, and as the rightful Lord, and to
advance his honor and glory... All the lines of Christian doctrine centre in
Christ; and in preaching Christ we preach all we should preach. (Matthew Henry)
(Matthew
Henry)
Is Jesus the main focus of preaching today.
6 For God, who said,
“Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give
us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.
This is the continuing comparison between
the veil of Moses and the perfect reflection of Jesus Christ. Believers have
seen the glory of Christ in the gospel and in their lives. Where have you seen
or experienced the glory of Christ?
¿Dónde has visto o
experimentado la gloria de Cristo?
When we see Jesus then we see God. Cuando vemos a Jesús
entonces vemos a Dios.
Christ
is the image of God in this sense, that He shows us what God is. If you know
the character of Jesus, you know the character of God. God Himself is
invisible, and is not seen of mortal eye, neither can He be comprehended of
finite mind. He cannot, indeed, be truly known at all except by the teaching of
the Holy Spirit. But all that can be known of God is fairly written in capital
letters in the person of Jesus.(Charles Spurgeon)
EG. steam boat operator...I GOT
THE GLORY...
(Charles Spurgeon)
POR EJEMPLO. operador del barco de vapor ... Me tiene la gloria ...
To see Jesus is to see the Father. Perhaps
today we are struggling with something in our life. Maybe we feel there is no
way God could ever forgive us. Maybe all is well and we are just thankful. No
matter who we are or what we are going through the gospel of glory has been
preached. Jesus is here and He longs for us to turn to Him to be saved, washed,
refreshed, and filled with His holy Spirit...Do we want the glory? Let us
pray..
Ver a Jesús
Oremos ..
