VIDA EN
BABILONIA
Introduction: Introducción:
We know more of Daniel the man than we do of any other prophet. He
gave us a personal account of his life from the time he was carried captive to
Babylon in the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim,
which was about 606 B.C., until the first year of King Cyrus, which was about
536 B.C.. Daniel’s life and ministry bridged the entire 70 years of captivity.
At the beginning of the book he is a boy in his teens, and at the end he is an
old man of fourscore or more years… (J.
Sabemos

This one
prophet therefore saw within the compass of his own time the rise, reign, and
ruin of that monarchy; so that it was the affair of a single age, such
short-lived things are the kingdoms of the earth; but the kingdom of heaven is
everlasting. (Matthew Henry)
(Matthew Henry)
Who delivered

Israel was chosen to make
Yahweh known to all people to restore us into relationship with God…obviously
they failed so God sent Jesus. Who has God chosen today to carry His message of
salvation? Us…Christ has commanded us to make disciples of all nations….
Have we turned His command
into privilege and service to Jesus, into special standing like
Nosotros ... Cristo nos ha mandado hacer
discípulos de todas las naciones ....
¿Hemos convertido Su mandato en privilegio y servicio a Jesús, en posición
especial como lo hizo Israel?

patronizing pat on the head, to a marginalizing indifference, to an outright

hostilidad absoluta. (Brandon Park)

Daniel.
5 The king assigned them a daily
amount of food and wine from the king’s table.
These youths, like all the youths, both those
in training and those who served Nebuchadnezzar, shared in the king's food and
drink. These royal provisions were a real honor and perk. This was the best
quality and best variety of food available anywhere. It was also provided to Jehoiachin in exile. However, it was not Levitically "clean". It
was not kosher. (Utely)
kosher. (Utely)
Part of the
Babylonian attempted indoctrination, was to change the Jewish youth’s names.
The hope was for them to convert to Bel worship.
Parte
Their Hebrew
names, which they received at their circumcision, had something of God, or Jah, in them: Daniel—God is my Judge; Hananiah—The grace of the Lord; Mishael—He that is the strong God; Azariah—The
Lord is a help. To make them forget the God of their fathers, the guide of
their youth, they give them names that savor of the Chaldean
idolatry. Belteshazzar signifies the keeper
of the hidden treasures of Bel; Shadrach—The inspiration of the sun, which the Chaldeans worshipped; Meshach—Of
the goddess Shach, under which name Venus was
worshipped; Abed-nego, The servant of the
shining fire, which they worshipped also. (Matthew
Henry)
adoraban; Meshach-De la diosa Shach, bajo cuyo nombre Venus fue adorado;
(Matthew Henry)
This would be the equivalent
to changing the name of a child from Joshua to Lucifer today.
The people of God, as a
whole, are to find themselves at the mercy of a ruler who will systematically
impose on them heathen ways and at the same time forbid them to worship the God
of their fathers". (The Tyndale Old Testament
Commentaries)
Testament Commentaries).

I
was a bit shocked but most theologians believe Daniel and his friends were
castrated. That is what Babylonian Kings did to the conquered. Furthermore, it
protected his harem. In the text Daniel goes to the chief of the eunuchs.
Furthermore, there is no mention of any wives or children for these four men.
But it was prophesized,
16 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the Lord: 17 The time will
surely come when everything in your palace, and all that your predecessors have
stored up until this day, will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left,
says the Lord. 18 And
some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood who will be born to you,
will be taken away, and they will become eunuchs in the palace of the king of
The
Jews would not want it in the text because a eunuch couldn’t worship in the
temple and Jewish men were to procreate. Also, it would be embarrassing to have
one of the major prophets be a eunuch. However, I
believe, if Daniel was a Eunuch, it would enhance his courage and standing.
It is ascribed to Daniel as his purpose and resolution: that he
would not defile himself with the portion the king's meat; by eating of it;
partly because it might consist of what was forbidden by the law of Moses, as
the flesh of unclean creatures, particularly swine, and fat and blood, and so
defile himself in a ceremonial sense; and partly because, though it might be
food in itself lawful to be eaten, yet part of it being first offered to their
idol "Bel," as was usual, and the whole
blessed in his name, it would have been against his conscience (John Gill)
Daniel
exhibits his people skills and has become one of the chief eunuch’s favorites.
But it is not Daniel, but God causing the official to show favor. Even when we
think things are out of control…Jesus is still on the throne. The official
would like to help Daniel, but it could mean his head… this is to be
continued…next week.

I believe there are three
things we can do: Creo que hay tres cosas que podemos hacer:
1.
Remember whose we are? Who
do we belong to? Jesus...Daniel remembered who he is.
2.
Be courageous like Daniel
speak up…you notice he didn’t scream at the official, protest, or throw fire
bombs…he quietly engaged the official.
3.
Listen to God and KNOW that
He is already preparing a way for us…like He did for Daniel
1. ¿Recuerdas de quién
somos? ¿A quién pertenecemos? Jesús ... Daniel recordó quién es.
