San Juan 10:11-18
Amigos,
Yo no estoy
Yo no estoy allí. Mi
¡Contamos
con su palabra!
Friends, in today’s
gospel, Jesus says, “I am the Good Shepherd.” There is a lot of meaning packed
in these words. When Jesus says “I am” in the Greek language which the gospel
was originally written, it is an emphatic I AM. This is important because in
the Old Testament God tells Moses His name is I AM. In reality Jesus is saying
he is God…he is I am. In addition, the Shepherd for Israel was a title reserved
for God. Therefore, Jesus is telling the Pharisees that he is Yahweh (I Am) the
Shepherd of Israel…or God! Later in this chapter the Pharisees want to stone
Jesus to death for proclaiming himself God. Friends, Jesus is God and he lives
with us here and now. One commentator said, “The Lord spoke to him saying, “My
name is I Am. When you live in the past with its mistakes and regrets, it is
hard. I am not there. My name is not I Was. When you live in the future with
its problems and fears, it is hard. I am not there. My name is not I Will Be. When you live in this moment it is not
hard; I am there. My name is I Am!”
Brothers and sisters, whatever we are going through Jesus is with us
each step of the way. We have his word on it.
Nosotros
We know God is always with us and that he cares for
us. In fact
he loves us and values us. We are important to God. Jesus calls us his sheep,
part of his flock.
After the September 11th terrorists attacks
a commission was set up to compensate the families for their loss of loved ones, the three
thousand victims. Everyone received the same amount of money for pain and
suffering but the compensation was different depending on how much the deceased
person made and how much insurance they had. It was a very difficult process.
Many families had hearings in order to get a higher compensation for the lost
loved ones. What is interesting is they were not motivated out of greed. But
they wanted their deceased love one to have value. Friends, we never have to
worry about our value. God loves us, cares for us, and gives us value. We are
his precious children.
nuestras vidas.
Next
Jesus tells us he knows us just as a shepherd knows his sheep. In the gospel of
Matthew he tells us he knows every hair on our heads. Jesus knows us intimately
and he still loves us! He wants us to respond to this love. He wants us to walk
with him daily and share the same type of relationship with him as he has with
the Father. Jesus wants to be our number one priority in life.
Deberíamos venir a conocer a
hizo. El murió por nosotros.
There
was a Sunday school teacher who asked her four and five year old class if any
of them knew Psalm 23. One little girl said she knew all of Psalm 23. The
teacher was skeptical and asked her to recite the entire Psalm. The little girl
stood up and made a little bow and the said, “The Lord is my shepherd, that is
all I want.” And then she bowed again and sat down. This little girl did not
know all the words to the Psalm but more importantly, she knew what it meant.
She knew God was to be her number one priority. She was to know Jesus as a
sheep knows its shepherd and it is the same for us. We should come to know
Jesus as our shepherd through worship and study. Next Saturday at 5PM we will
start an ALPHA class in Spanish. This is an opportunity to know Jesus as our
shepherd. Child care will be provided free of charge. Please plan on attending
this study and meet Jesus. He cares for us and knows us and he even died on a
cross for us. Jesus the Good Shepherd sacrificed himself for his sheep…for you
and me. Why? A man does not die for an animal. A God does not die for people.
But that is exactly what Jesus did. He died for us.
Jesus
sacrificed himself that we might know God and live forever. Matthew Henry
writes, “It was the choice of the Good Shepherd to give his life to purchase
his flock, to satisfy for their sins, and to shed his blood to wash and cleanse
them.” Friends, Jesus chose to die for you and me. Now how will we respond?
A
shepherd in Scotland said that the sheep will occasionally stray away and jump
to a ledge about ten feet from the top of a cliff in order to get the sweet
grass on the lower ledge. The problem is they can not jump back up. So they
will bleat in distress but the shepherd waits for about three days when they
have eaten all the grass on the ledge and they are too tired and weak to stand
up. Then the shepherd ties a rope around them and pulls them to safety. Why
does the shepherd wait for three days? The sheep are so foolish they would dash
right over the cliff and be killed if the shepherd did not wait until they were
exhausted. And that is the way it is with men; they will not go back to God
until they have lost everything. If you are a wanderer, like I was, I tell you
the Good Shepherd will bring you back the moment you have given up trying to
save yourself and are willing to let him save you his own way. Friends, today Jesus
is here to bring us to safety. He cares for us, he knows us, and he loved us
enough to die on a cross for us. Will we let him save us? Amen.
Sálvanos a tu propio modo hoy.
Oremus:
Lord Jesus you love us, care for us, value us, know us, and died for us….save
us your own way today…in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit…Amen.
